  1. Re: Mike Jones GW4 Swansea V Newcastle – I think Matt Richie should have been sent off for that high tackle which made contact with an opponent – that challenge in my opinion endangered the safety of an opponent. I am a Newcastle supporter as well!

  2. Taylor should never ref a game again…missed a horrendous challenge on aguero…knee high studs up challenge didn’t even give a yellow…Fabian delph given red yet Taylor brought a yellow out and wrote his name on it only to then brandish a straight red….poor poor performance

    • He should not be refereeing Man U or Man C to protect him from being accused of being biased which he clearly is not. He wouldn’t be a Premier League referee if he was biased. He supports neither Man C or Man U he supports Altrincham.

  3. Mike Dean is a Tranmere fan but not allowed to ref Liverpool or Everton unless they’re against each other like last season.

  4. The marks are far too high we have the worst referees in the world -just watch continental games on TV to prove this.

  5. Can’t see how Lee Probert and his assistants missed the stonewall penalty on Saturday and would like to know where the extra 3 mins of added time came from?
Its about time that timekeeping was given to an off-field official as in Rugby – interested in Kieth’s views on this.

  6. Stuart Atwell seems to have had more lives than a cat.
His performance on Sunday was pitiful. In consistency aside I felt there were 3 really important incidents he dealt with incorrectly 1. The challenge by the Arsenal player that lead to the Brighton player having to go off was horrendous. 2. Arsenal player clearly dives in the box and he just cuts the grass when an obvious caution for simulation was required. 3. Stephens I think it was made a great ball winning challenge on Wilshire and is cautioned for a foul.
It surprised me that on todays show you said he needed to be braver I think the term is you used. This official should be experienced enough to be brave the length of time he has been given at the top. Especially when he now holds a badge that I thought was for only the best in each country?

    • Stuart Atwell is a poor referee in my opinion. I agree with you on point 3, the challenge by Stephens was a great tackle and the yellow card was an appalling decision. I strongly disagree on point 1, the two players were both focused on heading the ball and the collision was as a result of two players challenging for a header. I don’t remember point 2. I don’t think Mr Atwell should be a Premier League referee never mind a FIFA referee!

  7. Got to be honest, the linesman on the far side in Bournemouth vs Tottenham struggled, wasn’t in line the majority of the time, and that didn’t help Mike Dean. Hopefully it is only a one time thing though, and that he acknowledges his mistakes and improves on them next week.

  8. Surprised that Mike Dean had a “Quiet game that he managed well” with no mention of a few talking points. Dan Gosling’s yellow card never was – he won the ball with only incidental contact. I’d use the same phrase to describe Callum Wilson’s contact with Sanchez that led to his “goal” for 2-2 being disallowed but it could easily be argued that Wilson was fending off Sanchez who was jumping towards him. What couldn’t be reasonably argued is that a penalty would never have been awarded if the roles had been reversed (defender in contact with attacker).
Dean made a shocking error in failing to caution Son under Law 13 for preventing the taking of a free kick or, at the very least, order him to move away. If he had done so Bournemouth wouldn’t have then made the error under pressure that led to the decisive third goal. Make no mistake, Son stood very close to the ball for a period of time but instead of acting Dean stood, looked and did or said nothing; in effect he chose to ignore a law of the game.
Footnote: There were two marginal offside call for Assistant Mark Scholes. I can’t say he got one right and one wrong because the reality was that he was so far behind the play he was in no position to make any decision at all. Granted Son was only marginally offside for his second goal but if Scholes had been up with the play he would have had some chance of making the right decision.

  9. Michel Oliver is second best referee on these rankings yet sits out the last two games. Little wonder the overall standard falls season after season.

  10. No comment about Harry Maguire putting his hand into the face of Dwight Gayle in the Leicester V Newcastle match? Yet another inept performance from Stuart Atwell.

  11. Kavanagh at Watford Palace, a pitiful performance. Failed to give Palace a clear cut penalty, compounded by then booking Zaha for diving (Mariappa has since admitted it was a foul and should have been a penalty). Mariappa and Doucoure should both have been sent off for Watford as should Ward for Palace, all for second yellows.

  12. A typical Bobby Madley performance involving Newcastle United, Keane should have seen red for two cautionable offences. Kenedy almost had his shirt torn off and was cautioned for the heinous crime of remonstrating with his opponent. An Everton committed a two footed lunge without punishment and Madley also missed a blatant handball which should have resulted in a Newcastle penalty but surprise, surprise he didn’t see it. Madley is highly incompetent and almost as bad as Stuart Atwell, another inept, incompetent referee who somehow wears a FIFA badge. The Luke’s of George Courtney, The Ref Online @ Dermot Gallagher must be astonished at how easily referees attain FIFA status these days!

  13. Quite simply if u have never officiated before try and have an understanding of how difficult it is with a split second to decide on a decision and the angles, cameras can offer some great yet bad examples of all sorts of tackles, good and bad

  14. Kevin Friend had an absolute shocker at anfield . Just because Liverpool ran out comfortable winners anyway doesn’t detract from the fact he missed 2 clear penalties, numerous other fouls not given and seemingly decided as it was the last game no one was getting booked.
An observation on the refereeing this season as a whole the standard of refereeing has been poor and wildly inconsistent. The idea that decisions even out over a season? Well 38 games done and spurs ended up getting more pens at anfield this year than Liverpool

  15. GW38 Tierney
You say no major incidents. He missed a penalty for afcb when King was tripped. Some inconsistency in refereeing fouls. 5 for me at best

  16. For me Michael Oliver is by far the best referee we have in the Premier League No doubt about it. Last season in particular he made V few key match errors unlike in previous seasons gone by when the number of so called “Big decisions” he called incorrect. Michael’s movement & positioning during matches was outstanding therefore he had very decent viewing angles, subsequently was in the right place to give a decision, free kick, penalty or whatever. Brilliant referee. I also like Paul Tierney a lot as well, I think he had a superb 2017/18 season altogether IMO. Not the fastest ref we’ve got on SG1 but Paul’s awareness of what is going on around him is second to none, very impressive indeed. He was also promoted to the FIFA list of officials along with Stuart Attwell & rightly so in my opinion. Chris Kavanagh excellent last season ⚽️👍👍 very bright future ahead for him!

  17. Lee Mason isn’t good enough for SG1 IMO, far too inconsistent in his recognition of careless/reckless challenges for instance. Chris Kavanagh & Paul Tierney for me should be getting a Premier League game every other week really NOT once in a month or something stupid like that. Those lads HAVE to be given regular appointments to test themselves and show everyone that they do have what it takes to referee any game in the top flight weather that be Bournemouth vs Newcastle or Arsenal vs Man UTD for example(no disrespect to Bournemouth and Newcastle).
